About the Congressman
We are excited to see you in New York City in just a few weeks! As we prepare to celebrate 60 years of TRIO excellence, we are thrilled to be joined by Congressman Adriano Espaillat of New York City! He is just the third person to represent the historic 13th District of New York, which was previously represented in Congress by luminaries Charlie Rangel and Adam Clayton Powell, Jr.
The first Dominican American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives, Rep. Espaillat established himself as a TRIO ally very early into his tenure in Congress. A Member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce during his first term, he helped lead the bipartisan coalition of legislators that succeeded in getting the U.S. Department of Education to reverse its decision to toss out approximately 80 Upward Bound grant applications for non-substantive errors such as line-spacing. Since that time, Rep. Espaillat has become a Member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, which has direct oversight of government funding. We are excited to meet with him in New York City and hope that you will join a select group of TRIO leaders at a private reception honoring the Congressman.
Contributions to Adriano Espaillat for Congress are not tax deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes.
